There is a prevailing trend to boost the yields of existing wind turbines via retrofit systems or optimise that of new ones. Nearly all manufacturers nowadays offer aerodynamic optimisations of the rotor profiles as well as additional aerodynamic elements that are attached to the rotor blade. WTS products such as self-actuating flaps and 3D serrations enable the output to be raised by up to 2% depending on the type of turbine and profile. Self-actuating flaps are of particular use in sustainably boosting the yield of existing turbines (stall-controlled turbines).
In wind tunnel tests, the 3D serrations showed that they also boast a yield increase of up to 2%, depending on the type of turbine and profile.
